We won an EU VgV-procedure for planning services for the expansion of the Irschenberg sewage treatment plant

Due to the age of Irschenberg sewage treatment plant and the constant increase of waste water, Irschenberg Plant is more than working at its capacity and is reaching the limits of its capacity. The special feature of Irschenberg sewage treatment plant is its sensitive location and the adjoining receiving water „Schwamhamer Graben“, which is classified as low-flow. On the basis of an existing hydrological ecological report, the mentioned „Schwamhamer Graben“ should gain the character of spring water in the future. In order to relief this receiving water, a 4th cleaning stage is to be implemented at the Irschenberg sewage treatment plant for the retention of further nutrients as well as the removal of micropollutants and trace substances and also for the partial hygienization. The project is accompanied as a showcase project with scientific support from the Technical University of Munich and parallel laboratory and semi-technical tests are carried out in connection with a dissertation during the planning process. The focus for the 4th cleaning stage is the planning of a downstream retention soil filter as a natural solution using granulated activated carbon (GAK). To implement this solution the municipality of Irschenberg received the Bavarian Innovation Prize in 2021. The biological wastewater treatment will be realized most likely and preferably with the SBR process, in which our project team has extensive experience in this regard! We are looking forward to work with our long-term office partner DAK from Munich (www.dak-consult.com) and all other project participants on this exciting and innovative project, which will certainly have a trend-setting character in its size class (sewage treatment plants 5,000-20,000 PT).
